But we’re so excited for the new Yellow Wiggle!
Emma Watkins, a.k.a. the first woman to be a Wiggle, has hung up her big yellow bow for the last time.
Just before the new year, Watkins uploaded a post on her Facebook celebrating her final day as the Yellow Wiggle with a photo of her in her Wiggles costume holding up a big fabric version of her iconic bow. Fans of the show flooded the comments with well wishes and thanks for inspiring and entertaining their little ones for the past nine years.
“Thank you for the smiles and for empowering little girls everywhere,” said one commenter. “You will forever be the yellow Wiggle in our hearts.”
“Best of luck for the future Emma, you are a true talent and beautiful soul. Thank you for keeping our kids (and us parents) entertained throughout the years,” wrote another.
Little fans of the Yellow Wiggle have been dreading this day since October 2021 when Emma first announced that she’d be leaving the group due to revelations she had during lockdown.
“Like many people around the world, the pandemic has given me time to reflect on what is important in life,” she said in the statement announcing her departure. “For me, that means spending more time at home, something that I didn’t realise I was missing out on being away eight months of the year on tour, but something that I have really cherished over the last 18 months.”
Watkins had been with the Wiggles for 11 years, first appearing on the show as a number of side characters before donning her signature yellow bow in 2013. While we’re all sad to see Emma go, there’s no need to fret, because there will still be lots of girl power in the group. Sixteen-year-old Tsehay Hawkins, who was a formally a supporting cast member on the Wiggle’s Fruit Salad TV series on YouTube, is stepping into the role of the Yellow Wiggle, bringing her smooth shuffling moves, sunny smile and youthful spirit to the group.
Want to know a fun fact? Tsehay will be the youngest person ever to join the Wiggles! How cool is that?
