6 must-watch Disney Plus Canada shows and movies coming in

Disney+ is always adding to their library of movies, TV shows and shorts, and the new Monsters Inc. series, Monsters at Work, is among our top picks to watch as a family in July.

New content is coming to Disney+! The streaming service from Disney has announced which TV shows and movies will be added to its lineup in July and we’ve chosen the six titles for kids and families that we’re most excited about—including the new series from the Monsters Inc. universe as well as a bunch of new shorts that bring back the humour of Disney’s classic cartoons

But first, an important note: The age recommendations offered below are approximate. Every kid is different, and you’re the best judge of what’s appropriate and what your kid can handle.

Monsters at Work

Best for: 6+
Fans of Monsters Inc. and Monsters University will love this new series that follows Tylor Tuskmon, a monster who has spent his life dreaming of becoming a Scarer, as he arrives at Monsters Incorporated and discovers that scaring is out and laughter is in. Series premiere available on July 7 with new episodes available every following Wednesday in July.

Chip ‘n’ Dale: Park Life

Best for: 5+
Chip and Dale are back in a series of new shorts that are a modern take on Disney’s classic non-verbal slapstick comedy. Each episode consists of three shorts in which the chipmunk brothers deal with all kinds of antics related to living in a park: from stealing chestnuts from the wrong dog to getting stuck in the park’s baby enclosure. Series premiere available on July 28.

The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse, Batch 2

Best for: 5+
In The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse, it’s nothing but fun and excitement for Mickey and his best pals—Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy and Pluto—as they embark on their greatest adventures yet, navigating the curveballs of a wild and zany world where the magic of Disney makes the impossible possible. Each seven-minute short is filled with laugh-out-loud comedy, modern settings, timeless stories, new music and the unmistakable classic art style of the “Mickey Mouse” shorts. Batch 2 premiere available on July 28.

Meet Spidey and His Amazing Friends

Best for: 3+
Speaking of shorts, this series gives little Marvel fans an early introduction to the stars of Marvel’s first show made specifically for preschoolers, Spidey and His Amazing Friends. Each short will introduce a hero, such as Peter Parker, Gwen Stacey and Miles Morales, who will then go on adventures together when the full series comes to the streaming platform in August. Available July 21.

Disney Junior T. O. T. S., Season 2

Best for: 3+
Little animal lovers will love this show that follows Pip the Penguin and Freddy the Flamingo as they learn the ropes at the Tiny Ones Transport Service (a.k.a. T.O.T.S.) as Junior Fliers helping to deliver baby animals to their parents. Available July 30.

Jungle Cruise

Best for: 9+
If your family has been to Disneyland, chances are you’ve been on the Jungle Cruise ride, and now you can take a rollicking thrill-ride down the Amazon from the comfort of your couch with this new movie. When intrepid researcher Dr. Lily Houghton travels from London to the Amazon jungle, she enlists the wisecracking skipper Frank Wolff and his questionable services to guide her downriver on La Quila—his ramshackle but charming boat. Lily is determined to uncover an ancient tree with unparalleled healing abilities—possessing the power to change the future of medicine. Thrust on this epic quest together, the unlikely duo encounters innumerable dangers and supernatural forces, all lurking in the deceptive beauty of the lush rainforest. But as the secrets of the lost tree unfold, the stakes reach even higher for Lily and Frank and their fate—and mankind’s—hangs in the balance. With Premier Access for $34.99, viewers can watch Jungle Cruise starting on July 30 before it’s available to all Disney+ subscribers.
