It’s easy to cut shapes out of detergent bottle plastic. The shapes- in this video- bananas- can be attached using bracelets. Some individuals will find it easier to first learn how to remove the bracelets. Others will be able to attach it. I find that attaching or closing materials (i.e. buttons, snaps, knots) takes more skill than opening materials.

Learn more about adapting activities to develop functional hand skills in my book: FROM FLAPPING TO FUNCTION: A PARENT’S GUIDE TO AUTISM AND HAND SKILLS.

The Recycling Occupational Therapist demonstrates a few sensory based adaptations that help children and adults with autism and other developmental disorder to develop hand skills.
