We have officially been stuck at home for 2.5 months now for the Coronavirus “stay at home” lockdown. While the boys have a bit of online courses, they still have way too much free time on their hands. We’ve managed to limit their TV, iPad, PS4, and computer times to a minimal by diverting their attention with fun arts and crafts. One of the most successful things they love doing is making paper airplanes!

While the boys had lots of fun making new paper airplane designs and flying them around the house, I decided to spice things up by giving them different challenges. I bought a bunch of little prizes for them online to get them even more excited.
I know there are many of you that have kids and are looking for fun things to do at home, look no further. Making paper airplanes is easy, only requires paper, and there’s no messy clean up afterwards. We made a bunch of slim from an online tutorial with flour and the cleanup after was horrifying.
PAPER AIRPLANE BASKET CHALLENGE!
This game is similar to paper airplane catch (https://youtu.be/KQwVHdZvZo8). Instead of catching the paper airplane with your hands, I challenged the boys to catch the paper airplane with a basket. I didn’t want to always have them battle against each other, so I decided to have them work together to win a big prize. To keep the prize relevant, I bought a HEXBUG Crossfire Paper Airplane Launcher online. By the way, I will be reviewing this product in another video and post.
The challenge is simple, the boys need to work together to catch 10 paper airplanes consecutively using a large basket. One person is in charge of throwing, while the other catching. Unfortunately, I underestimated their skills and they won the prize on their first attempt.
While they won the prize pretty quickly, they went on wanting to challenge themselves with a harder challenge. Instead of a large basket, I gave them a smaller tabletop trashcan to catch with. I also had the boys switch places. With the smaller trashcan, the challenge went on for about 45 minutes before they wanted to bust open and work on their prize.
HEXBUG CROSSFIRE PAPER AIRPLANE LAUNCHER
The HEXBUG Crossfire Paper Airplane Launcher is pretty cool, it’s practically a crossbow that uses a rubber band to launch the paper airplanes. I read through the building instructions and there are some very small parts that need to be assembled.
They ended up needing a little help to complete the project. Again, I’ll create a review of the product in another video / post.
CONCLUSION
On a final note, if you’re you’re looking for something fun to do at home for kids on a rainy day, I highly recommend making paper airplanes. It’s a great way to get your kids away from screens and believe it or not, it’s very educational.
