Ipill is an emergency contraceptive that contains Levonorgestrol 1.5mg used when other contraceptive methods have failed. But Ipill is not effective against sexually transmitted diseases (STD) including syphilis and HIV/AIDS
Side Effects- I-Pill may cause-
1. menstrual irregularities.
2. irregular or unexpected vaginal bleeding or discharge
3. exhaustion, dizziness , tenderness in breasts or nausea
4. skin rashes
How to use I-Pill?
I-Pill has to be consumed orally within 72 hours of unprotected sexual intercourse.
Q1) Can I-Pill be used in breastfeeding mothers?
Ans: I-Pill is safe in Lactating and breastfeeding mothers and the breast milk is unlikely to be affected.
Q2) How many times can I use this medicine?
Ans: It is not advisable to use I-Pill frequently. It should be limited for emergency use only.
Q3) Should I do a pregnancy test if I have already taken the I-Pill?
Ans: I-Pill is 80 to 90% effective if taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. So, a pregnancy test is advisable if your periods are more than a week late.
Q4) Whats the correct way of taking I-Pill?
Ans: I-Pill should be taken orally with water within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. If you vomit within 30 mins of the pill, you have to repeat the dose.
Q5) Can ipill be taken more than once in the same cycle?
Ans: Ipill protects you against two episodes of unprotected sex if the time interval between them is not more than 12 hours. So, if this duration has passed then the dose must be repeated.
Q6) What is emergency contraception?
Ans: Emergency contraception refers to medicines that are used to prevent unwanted pregnancy due to unprotected sex in cases of rupture of the condom, missed birth control pill and unplanned unprotected sex.
