What are the best principles for raising a child or teen with ADHD? In this live class, Dr. Barkley will teach parents six of his 12 best principles from his 2020 book, 12 Principles for Raising a Child with ADHD. We’ll begin with the first principle: understanding the true nature of ADHD as a disorder of self-regulation and executive functioning. Dr. Barkley will then discuss the five other essential principles, involving both the perspective one needs to take toward the disorder as a parent, as well as key management principles for dealing with the executive function deficits inherent in the disorder. These principles are largely based on his theory of ADHD as a disorder of self-regulation and executive functioning, as well as his review of all research published weekly on ADHD and the wisdom he has gained from 41 years of clinical practice. These principles form the core ideas that every parent needs to know to best understand and raise a child or teen with ADHD.
